“Zac, you’re going straight to bed without reading ANY books tonight!
You’ve been fighting us since we started bedtime an hour ago.
Why won’t you just listen to what we say??!”
My patience meter had dropped below zero.
My tank was less than empty.
I didn’t know patience could be measured in negative numbers, but alas, parenthood never fails to teach me one more lesson.
It was time for bed. For our 5-yr old son.
For any non-parent, this task doesn’t sound too difficult.
Who doesn’t love to sleep, am I right?
But every father and mother on this planet…
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” —2 Corinthians 5:7
It was a long way down to the bottom…
The ground looked hard and unforgiving…
I would have zero room for error…
As I flew through the narrow gap between the trees.
The rugged edge of this steep drop only added to my fears…
A long, twisted root lined the end of the trail right before the earth disappeared below.
It was one final obstacle. Placed between me and my leap of faith.
I didn’t want to hit this root at the wrong angle...
Or it would buck my…
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” —Matthew 6:27
As we lied next to each other in bed, we didn’t know what would happen next…
Our dark, silent massive master bedroom had transformed into an ear-piercing echo chamber of our worst nighttime worries.
Each of our unfounded fears ricocheted off the walls as we uttered them aloud:
Would my business survive this unexpected disaster…?
Would our bank account drain past empty…?
Would our marriage flourish OR fall apart…?
We faced many new unknowns. And we were scared of them all.
We sure as…
By the time I slammed their fridge door, it was too late.
I had over-reacted.
Done the deed.
Anger had hijacked my heart.
I was pissed.
And would regret the next few words to slip from my tongue—if I let them.
I needed to escape…
So I left the kitchen.
I didn’t have to go home, but I sure as heck couldn’t stay in there.
Our festive night didn’t start this way…
We had embarked on a crucial mission.
Determined to flee 2020. On New Year’s Eve. As two couples, together.
The 4 of us were rebels with a…
“If it wasn’t for your beard, I would think you were one of our students.”
I knew this friendly school security guard meant no harm. He was only making an observation.
And to be fair, observation is an essential skill for his position. He would be ill-equipped for the role without a sharp sensitivity to detail.
However, I would have reserved his candid remark for a close friend. Not a stranger I met 5 seconds ago.
A stranger who just approached this pillar-lined main school entrance with his wife (Kathy) and 5-yr old son (Zac).
We had arrived for…
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that. — James 4:13:15
We are out of control.
A global pandemic…
Draconian lockdowns and lack of social interaction…
Permanent business closures…
Widespread financial ruin…
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
God is still in this…
…ALL of this.
In every day…
In every hour…
In every minute…
In every second of the year 2020.
The virus. The lockdowns. The economic turmoil. The division. The riots and looting.
Even though you may not always feel it, truth is still truth:
God is here.
And He is in full control of our world.
Because He is sovereign.
The Unconquerable King…
I can be so hard-headed sometimes.
I should have listened sooner.
If I had, our company profits would have scaled faster — and easier.
I’m not sure why I resisted this one powerful price change for so long.
But I’m glad I finally took the leap.
Because finding the optimal prices for your products and services is one of the highest leverage, most profit-boosting activities you can undertake in your business. Period.
Trust me. It’s epically satisfying when you hit the pricing sweet spot that strikes the perfect balance between volume and profits.
In fact, that’s exactly what happened when…
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. — Ephesians 2:10
“I’m not a creative person.”
In my 35 years of life, I’ve heard many people utter this unfortunate UNtruth about themselves.
It’s just another devious lie straight from Satan’s savage mouth.
We are ALL creative beings. Made in the image of our Holy Creator.
He hand-crafts every shining star.
Paints the puffy clouds of the sky.
Sculpts every majestic mountainside.
Produces all the tumbling, wild ocean waves.
YOU are born with the same God-given creativity…
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
I feel like a fraud today.
An entrepreneurial fraud.
Might just be one. Not quite sure.
I regularly divulge my so-called “business wisdom” to you, my loyal reader.
I assume my last 10 years of digital marketing experience carries some modicum of value.
Some golden nuggets of knowledge ready to be unearthed and utilized.
